16 Bolt Stop Assembly
1) With the rifle pointed in a safe direction pull back the bolt carrier handle and ensure the rifle is unloaded. 
2) Allow the bolt to close and lock.
3) Depress the magazine release.
4) Pivot the magazine forward.
5) Remove the magazine from the rifle.
6) Remove the magazine follower and spring from rifle.
7) Using a small flat blade, remove the magazine follower spring from the magazine follower.
8) Separate the magazine follower spring from the magazine follower.
9) Turn receiver cover release counter clockwise to 12 o'clock position.
10) Push the receiver cover forward.
11) Lift the receiver cover up and pull it to the rear to remove.
12) Remove the receiver cover and separate inner recoil spring from outer recoil spring.
13) Remove the short inner recoil spring from the receiver cover.
14) Separate the short inner recoil spring from the recoil spring guide.
15) Separate the forward inner recoil spring from the recoil spring guide.
16) Remove the outer recoil spring from the bolt carrier.
17) Pull the bolt carrier and bolt back to the opening in receiver rails.
18) Pivot bolt carrier and bolt forward and out of the receiver.


 

19) Pivot the bolt to at the rear as shown in figure 19.

 

20) Separate the bolt and bolt carrier.
21) Figure 21 shows the gas cylinder plug and the gas cylinder plug release button.
22) Using a cartridge or (safer) a punch, push in on the release button and turn the gas cylinder plug (if you are facing the muzzle) clockwise until the plug can be removed.
23) Remove the gas cylinder plug.
24) Remove the gas piston.
25) Remove the gas piston spring.
26) Unscrew the end cap screw.
27) Remove the end cap screw.
28) Remove the end cap.
29) Unscrew the lower band screw.
30) Remove the swivel.
31) Remove the lower band.
32) Remove the upper hand guard.
33) Remove the lower hand guard.
34) Unscrew the front guard screw lock.
35) Remove the front guard screw lock.
36) Unscrew the center guard screw's stop screw. Remove the center guard screw's stop screw.
37) Unscrew the front guard screw.
31) Remove the front guard screw.
39) Unscrew the center guard screw.
40) Remove the center guard screw.

Note

Only the "early" variant Venezuelan contract rifles (under serial no 4000) and the Egyptian contract rifles have NO lock screw on the rear guard screw. All other contracts will have a lock screw.
41) Unscrew the rear guard screw.
42) Remove the rear guard screw.
43) Grasping both ends of the trigger assembly, slowly and carefully lift the assembly.
44) Remove the bolt stop assembly.
45) Remove barrel/receiver assembly from stock.
46)  Lift front of sliding dust cover as shown in figure 46.
47) Turn sliding dust cover as shown in figure 47 and then remove.

Note

Do not disassemble the trigger assembly unless you absolutely need to.
48) Drive out the hammer pin. It may be staked so you may need to brake the staking before the pin will move.

Staking: The process of permanently fastening two parts together by recessing one part within the other and then causing plastic flow of the material at the joint.

49) Remove the hammer pin by pushing a small punch or tool through.
50) Keep the hammer compressed with the palm of your hand and remove the tool.
51) Slowly allow the hammer spring to expand.
52) Remove the hammer springs.
53) Separate the inner hammer spring from the outer hammer spring.
54) Drive out the trigger pin.
55) Remove the auxiliary sear spring plunger and auxiliary sear spring from the auxiliary sear.
 
56) Separate the auxiliary sear spring plunger and auxiliary sear spring.
57) Remove the trigger.
58) Separate the trigger spring and trigger spring plunger from the trigger.
59) Separate the trigger spring and trigger spring plunger.
60) Drive out the magazine catch pin.
61) Using a small tool or screw driver push out the magazine catch pin.
62) Remove the ejector.
63) Remove and separate the magazine catch spring and magazine catch.
64) Remove the safety.

Not pictured:

Unscrew and remove the upper and lower butt stock screws and remove the butt stock.

Unscrew and remove the two screws on the rear sling swivel. Remove the sling swivel.

 

Reassembly Instructions

65) Insert the safety.
66) Depress the spring loaded plunger to snap the safety into place.
67) Install the ejector.
68) Figure 68 shows how the ejector should look when properly installed.
69) Combine the magazine catch spring and magazine catch.
70) Install the magazine catch spring and magazine catch. Inset a small punch or screw driver to hold the magazine catch and ejector in place.
71) Push the tool holding the parts in place out by inserting the pin.
72) Combine the trigger spring and trigger spring plunger.
73) Insert the trigger spring and trigger spring plunger into the trigger as shown in figure 73.
74) Insert the trigger as shown in figure 74.
75) Insert a punch or small tool to hold the trigger,  trigger spring and trigger spring plunger in place.
76) Combine the auxiliary sear spring plunger and auxiliary sear spring.
77) Insert the auxiliary sear spring plunger and auxiliary sear spring into the auxiliary sear.
78) Lay the auxiliary sear in place as shown in figure 78.
79) Pull the tool or punch out that is holding the trigger in place. Align the auxiliary sear and trigger and insert trigger pin.
80) Combine the inner hammer spring from the outer hammer spring.
81) Place the springs on the hammer.
82) Insert hammer as shown in figure 82.
83) Compress the hammer springs and align hammer with holes followed by insertion of the hammer pin.
84) Tap the hammer pin into place if necessary.
85) Figure 85 shows the completed reassembly of the trigger assembly for a reference.
86)  Insert sliding dust cover as shown in figure 86.
87) Turn sliding dust cover as shown in figure 87.
88) Install barrel/receiver assembly into stock.
89) Figure 89  shows the alignment of the bolt stop assembly and the guide hole in the trigger guard.
90) Replace the  bolt stop assembly.
91) Reinstall trigger guard assembly.
92) Replace rear guard screw.
93) Replace center guard screw.
94) Reinstall the front trigger guard screw.
95) Tighten the front trigger guard screw partially.
96) Tighten the center guard screw partially.
97) Tighten rear guard screw partially.
98) Fully tighten the front trigger guard screw.
99) Fully tighten the center guard screw.
100) Fully tighten rear guard screw.
101)   Replace center guard screw lock. Tighten the center guard screw lock.
102) Lock the front trigger guard screw lock.
103) Install lower hand guard.
104) Install upper hand guard.
105) Install the lower band.
106) Install swivel and screw into lower band.
107) Tighten screw in lower band.
108) Slide the end cap into place.
109) Replace and tighten the end cap screw.
110) Reinstall the gas piston spring.
111) Reinstall the gas piston.
112) Align the gas cylinder plug.
113) Reinstall the gas cylinder plug. Using a cartridge or (safer) a punch, push in on the release button and turn the gas cylinder plug (if you are facing the muzzle) counter clockwise until the plug locks into place.
114) Make sure  the semi-automatic indicator (letter printed on the plug) displayed on the upright surface of the plug.
115) Assemble bolt and bolt carrier by sliding the front of the bolt into the carrier as shown in figure 115.
116) Figure 116 shows the assembled bolt carrier and bolt.
117) Figure 117 shows the bolt carrier and bolt aligned with the opening in receiver rails.
118) Push down on the bolt and bolt carrier and push forward.
119) Assemble the short inner recoil spring and the recoil spring guide.
120) Assemble the forward inner recoil spring and the recoil spring guide.
121) Attach the short inner recoil spring from the receiver cover.
122) Insert recoil spring into rear of bolt carrier.
123) Slide outer recoil spring over inner recoil spring.
124) Compress recoil spring and then lower the receiver cover into rails of receiver.
125) Allow receiver cover to move back on rails.
126) Turn receiver cover release counter clockwise. Lock receiver cover release into 6 o'clock position.
127) Attach the magazine spring to the magazine follower.
128) Insert the magazine spring into the magazine.
129) Insert magazine follower, magazine follower spring, and magazine into rifle.
130) Lock the magazine into place.

131) Not pictured:

Replace the butt stock. Replace and tighten the upper and lower butt stock screws. 

Replace the sling swivel.

Replace and tighten the two screws on the rear sling swivel.

The rifle is reassembled!
