I have been reloading since 1985 or so.  I do not consider myself an expert by any means, but I do feel I am competent to pretty much take on any sort of reloading technique that is out there.  I was, at first, thinking that this book would be too “beginnerish” for me, instead, I found “The ABC’s of Reloading” book an excellent reference manual that would be equally valuable for the very beginner to the most advanced reloader.

If you own any of the main reloading data manuals, such as Speer, Lee or Hornady, you probably already know that most give you at least the very basic instructions on how to reload rifle and pistol (and sometimes shotgun) ammunition.  This book fills in the gap nicely.  For the beginner, it covers in detail, all the techniques, terminology and equipment used for all types of reloading, be it pistol, rifle or shotgun as well as important safety information.  For the advanced reloader, it is a great book to have on hand to learn about newer technology in reloading as well as try techniques that are geared more toward experienced reloaders.  No load data is incorporated in this book, it is strictly a reference and instruction book on reloading.

There are whole chapters at are devoted to the each of the main components of ammunition, such as the brass case, the primer, powders, bullets and bullet casting.  It covers the history of the components as well.   For the beginner reloader, this is your step by step help guide that will allow you to look up all the buzz words you hear more experience reloaders talk about.  There is also a section on sources and resources for reloading, recently updated in this 7th edition.

In addition to the main section of the book, there are “advanced” articles.  These are article/chapters that are written by knowledgeable and known experts that you may have seen in other gun rag publications.  These articles cover specific topics in shotgun, rifle and pistol reloading, or they cover topics such as the determining the value of reloading vs. surplus ammo prices.  There are several chapters devoted to topics of interest to the cowboy action or black powder shooters as well.

I found the book to be an easy to follow and easy to read reference on all things about reloading.  It would make an excellent permanent reference book and great companion to reloading data manuals that every reloader, young or old, beginner or expert should keep in their book shelf.

The ABC’s of Reloading covers all aspects of the hobby, from benchrest loading techniques, to ballistic software, to competition and hunting loads and more. It also includes a comprehensive directory of reloading manufacturers. The guide carefully pieces together steps and techniques for reloading into an understandable process, outlining the basic procedures and providing information on cartridge cases, primers, powders, bullets, equipment and much more, putting beginners on the road to becoming experts!
