The carbine used in
the instructions is an m44 carbine which has
an integrally attached bayonet. For the
1891/59 and m38 carbines omit any steps
related to the removal and installation of
the m44 bayonet.
1)
With the rifle pointed in a safe direction,
open the bolt and make sure the rifle is not
loaded.
2)
While depressing the trigger, remove the
bolt from the receiver.
3)
Unscrew the bayonet screw.
4)
Pull back on the bayonet sleeve, compressing
the internal spring.
5)
Remove the bayonet screw.
6)
Remove the bayonet.
7)
Allow the spring to expand slowly.
8)
Remove the bayonet sleeve.
9)
Remove the spring.
10)
Unscrew the cleaning rod.
11)
Remove the cleaning rod.
12) Unscrew the tang screw.
13) Remove the tang screw.
14) Unscrew the trigger guard screw.
15) Remove the trigger guard screw.
16) Remove the trigger guard by pulling
straight upwards.
17) Depress the floor plate latch.
18)
Open the floor plate.
19) Depress the magazine follower and
compress the follower spring and remove magazine follower and floor plate
assembly from magazine.
20) Depress the forward band spring and slide
forward band forward.
21) Depress rear band spring and slide the
rear band forward.
22) Remove the handguard.
23) Lift barrel and receiver from stock.
24) Unscrew the ejector screw.
25) Remove the ejector screw.
26) Push the ejector spring forward.
27) Lift the ejector spring at the front so
it clears the guide notch on the ejector.
28) Remove the ejector spring.
29) Remove the ejector.
30) Using a pointed object push the trigger
pin out of the trigger.
31) Figure 31 shows the trigger pin removed
from the trigger assembly.
32) Unscrew the bolt stop screw.
33) Remove the bolt stop screw.
34) Remove the trigger and bolt stop.
35) Separate the trigger and bolt stop.
36) Unscrew the stock cap screw.
37) Remove the stock cap screw.
38) Remove the stock nose cap.
39) Unscrew the upper butt plate screw.

Remove the upper butt plate screw.
41) Unscrew the lower butt plate screw.

Remove the lower butt plate screw.

Reassembly

44) Install the butt plate.
45) Install the lower butt plate screw.
46) Tighten the lower butt plate screw.
47) Install the upper butt plate screw.
48) Tighten the upper butt plate screw.
49) Replace the stock's nose cap.
50) Insert the nose cap screw.
51) Tighten the nose cap screw.
52) Combine the trigger and bolt stop as
shown in figure 52.
53) Figure 53 shows the trigger and bolt
stop correctly assembled.
54) Insert the
trigger and bolt stop.
55) Install the bolt stop screw.
56) Tighten the bolt stop screw.
57) Insert the trigger pin.
58) Insert the ejector.
59) Slide the ejector spring into the slot.
60) Insert the ejector spring screw.
61) Tighten the ejector spring screw.
62) Insert the barrel and receiver into the
stock.
63) Install handguard up against the rear
sight.
64) Slide the rear band onto the stock and
handguard.
65) Slide the rear band over the rear band
spring and snap into place.
66) Slide the forward band onto the stock
and handguard.
67) Slide the forward band over the forward
band spring and snap into place.
68) Depress the magazine follower and
compress the follower spring and then replace the magazine follower and floor
plate assembly in the magazine.
69) Close the floor plate and depress the
floor plate latch to latch in place.
70) Replace the trigger guard.
71) Replace the trigger guard screw.
72) Tighten the trigger guard screw.
73) Replace the
tang screw.
74) Tighten the tang screw.
75) Replace the spring onto the bayonet.
76) Slide the sleeve over the spring.
77) Compress the sleeve and insert the
bayonet into the cam.
78) Once the bayonet is inserted and the
hole is lined up, insert the screw.
79) Allow the spring to expand and then
tighten the screw.
Note correct position of barrel shroud on
bayonet.
80) Lock the
bayonet back into place.
81) Insert the cleaning rod.
82) Tighten the cleaning rod.
83) Insert the bolt.
84) Push the bolt fully forward.
85) Close the bolt. You have completed the
disassembly and reassembly of the Mosin 7.62
carbine.
